Description: |
This creation is a remnant of an antique ceremonial shirt with a symbolic pattern referring to a wedding. It is a Songket, a cloth embellished by supplemental weaving, Notice the boat with a representation of a couple separated by the ceremonial dais in the center. The stripes along the edges are formed by the symbols of the bamboo shoot, the triangular "tumpal" pattern, representing fertility.
This piece has been set in a frame which we designed specially to display textiles. There is no glass so that you can see the the surface of the cloth without relfections, and it is mounted so that you can see the reverse side of the fabric throhrough the back of the frame!
