This piece is a beautiful example of a hand-drawn Batik pattern. The arist uses a pen, called a canting, to draw with hot wax directly on the cloth. Traditionally it is women who do this work.
This kind of Batik is called "Batik tulis"; "tulis" means "write" in Indonesian. |
